Crowley’s Commitment Class on-time performance exceeds 95%

Our two new LNG-powered ConRo ships, MV El Coqui and MV Taino, are setting world-class standards as they consistently move customer cargo between the U.S. mainland and Puerto Rico in just over two days. With cruising speeds exceeding 22-knots, and enhanced operational efficiencies, these Commitment Class ships are redefining reliability. Combined, their on-time performance exceeds 95% – shattering the global maritime industry average on time performance of 70%. Since January 1st, 20 of the combined 21 voyages of these recently introduced ships have arrived within four hours of their scheduled arrival times.

Beneficial cargo owners (BCOs) speaking recently at the 2019 TPM Conference in Long Beach were quoted in an industry trade journal saying that schedule reliability is more important than ever. “Customer service begins with in-stock. When my shelves are empty, and customers can’t get product, that’s what keeps me up at night,” said one executive from a major home improvement retailer.

In addition to increased vessel speeds, the tempo at which cargo moves through the next stage of the supply chain is equally as important. To increase velocity of cargo moving off of the terminal and to the market, we’ve expanded our gate hours in San Juan. Additionally, our new seven-lane exit gate in San Juan and our innovative terminal operating system (TOS) allow trucking partners to enter the terminal then leave again with cargo in only 30 minutes.
