Inland Cost Monitoring – Dec 2017

2017-12-29

For November 2017, the CASS Index, which is being used to monitor and evaluate U.S. Inland rates monthly, reflected an average of 131.2 for Truckload and 130.6 for Intermodal (rail). Compared to the established baseline of 132.5 for Truckload and 132.8 for Intermodal (rail).  While both indexes experienced a slight decrease, neither reflected a +/- 2% change, meaning that inland rates will remain unchanged for this review period. The indexes can be found here: CASS Indexes.

Additionally, for same period, the Department of Energy’s retail on-highway diesel prices all types, which is being used to determine the Intermodal Fuel Charge, was $2.909. Therefore, effective 2/1/2018, the Intermodal Fuel Percentage will be increased to 22%.

The next review is set for January 2018, after which an appropriate adjustment will be made if necessary. The requirements and Index history can be viewed here.
