Puerto Rico: Independent Truckers Strike – Update 3

Puerto Rico truckers have come to a resolution with the Bureau of Transportation and the Puerto Rico Financial Oversight and Management Board over their inability to elevate inland freight rates as set by the Public Service Commission’s tariff.

This means that they will resume regular pick-ups and deliveries of cargo, effective immediately. To aid in the stabilization of the local supply chain, we will hold gate hours tomorrow (Friday, July 23) from 0700-1900. This will allow cargo aboard Taino to discharge upon arrival at 0800 and be available for final delivery on the island prior to the ship being reloaded for northbound transit as scheduled.

We anticipate a normalization of traffic and supply chain dispersion thereafter but will continue to evaluate the need to extend gate hours throughout the weekend to accommodate any backlog.

UPDATE 2 – July 21, 2021

The potential disruption to cargo distribution announced on Wednesday, July 21 by the independent trucking sector in Puerto Rico is still ongoing. The developing issue stems from Puerto Rico truckers’ frustration over their inability to elevate inland freight rates as set by the Public Service Commission’s tariff.

We have experienced interruption, resulting in limited deliveries from our terminal throughout the day however, we will review our gate hours on a daily basis to provide as much access to the terminal as possible in an effort to best maintain the integrity of your supply chain.

Unless otherwise indicated, gate hours and operations will remain normal.
We will continue to monitor this fluid situation and will take all measures to assure the safety of our employees, facilities, and your cargo. We will also continue to monitor our customer’s needs.

If you have any questions, please contact the Customer Care Department at 1-800-CROWLEY (1-800-276-9539).
