Dear Valued Customers:
By now you may be aware of an incident aboard the barge MIAMI on voyage SAL4027S. The MIAMI departed Jacksonville on the evening of March 4
Approximately 80 miles offshore from Nassau, Bahamas, a fire was detected on the third cargo deck, which is the open deck on top of the barge. The fire appears to be contained within this area. The Crowley tug PATRIARCH and her crew are safe and are continuing to tow the barge toward Freeport, Bahamas. We do not have any further information on the source or cause of the fire.
Crowley subsidiary TITAN Salvage has been contracted to handle the response, and the firefighting capable tug SVITZER OWL has been on-scene pumping since 0300 on 3/7/14. Additional firefighting vessels are being deployed.
Notifications were made to the following agencies: U.S. Coast Guard Miami and Bahamas, Witt-O’Brien spill and hazmat responder, Bahamas Defense Agency, Deputy Port Controller Nassau, and the Crowley Serious Incident Notification System. In addition to the SVITZER OWL, the USCG Cutter ROBERT YERED has been shadowing the Miami since last evening. A HC-144A Ocean Sentry aircraft crew, from Coast Guard Air Station Miami, is monitoring the vessel and the extent of the fire. Neither the Miami nor the tug PATRIARCH are in any imminent danger.
At this time, there will be an impact to our South Atlantic sailing schedule from Jacksonville in the days ahead. Please find outlined below our fixed sailing schedule for the next 2 weeks. We will advise of any additional changes to this schedule once more information becomes available.
