Update 9/27 1230

Storm Status Jeanne

The National Hurricane Center has discontinued its reporting on Tropical Depression Jeanne as of its 1100 advisory. At that time, the storm was located about 20 miles southwest of Roanoke, VA. The storm is moving northeast at 21 mph with maximum sustained winds of 30mph. There are currently no hurricane or tropical storm watches or warnings.

Railroads:

FEC is still not accepting north or southbound loads. The outbound gate is open to allow pick up of loads currently at ramps.

CSX and Norfolk Southern – Ramps are open for both in and out gate activity. Embargo of Florida destined cargo has not yet been formally lifted.

Delays should be expected on all cargo traveling by rail due to the congestion and situations associated with Jeanne.

Update 9/27 1230

Storm Status Jeanne

Tropical Storm Jeanne is likely to be downgraded to a Tropical Depression within the next few hours. The Tropical Storm Warning from Anclote Key to Apalachicola, FL has been discontinued but a Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect from Flagler Beach, FL to South Santee River, SC. At 1100hrs, Jeanne was located about 15 miles east-northeast of Albany, GA. She is moving north near 12 mph with maximum sustained winds near 40 mph.

Terminals/Offices:

The Jacksonville offices are currently opened and operating with a limited staff. Operations will resume normal business hours on Tuesday, 9/28.

Jacksonville Terminals – remain closed at this time however, the US Coast Guard is currently conducting port/ waterway surveys in order to reopen ports as soon as possible.

Port Everglades Terminal – reopened at 0030 on 9/27 for normal cargo operations

Update – 9/26 1500 hrs

Storm Status:

The Hurricane Warning along the west coast of Florida has been downgraded to a Tropical Storm Warning and the Tropical Storm Warning from Bonita Beach southward has been disontinued. At 1400 the hurricane Warning along the east coast of Florida from north of Jupiter Inlet to Cocoa Beach is discontinued and the Hurricane Warning norh of Cocoa to St. Augustine is downgraded to a Tropicl Storm Warning. The Hurricane Warning for Lake Ocochobee has been discontinued. A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect on the Atlantic Coast from north of Cocoa Beach to the Savannah River and on the Gulf Coast from north of Bonita Beach to Destin.

At 1400 the center of Tropical Storm Jeanne was located about 20 miles southeast of Brooksville, Florida and it is gradually moving toward the northeast around 10 mph. A gradual turn to the north is expected within the next 24 hours. On this track the center of Jeanne will be moving over northern Florida tonight and early Monday. Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 70mph with higher gusts.

Update – 9/25 1400 hrs

Storm Status:

The center of Hurricane Jeanne is close to Freeport in the Grand Bahama Island and is about 155 miles east of the southeastern coast of Florida moving toward the west at 14MPH. Frances is a strong category three hurricane with maximum sustained winds around 115MPH with higher gusts. The storm is expected to make landfall later tonight near Indian River county.

Hurricane Warnings remain in effect from St. Augustine, FL south to Florida City, FL. North of St. Augustine there is a tropical storm warning as well as a hurricane watch up to Altamaha, GA.

All offices are currently operating with normal business hours.

Port Everglades Terminal – The Coast Guard will close the port at 0600 Saturday 9/25. No vessels will come into port until it is reopened following the safe passage of Jeanne.

Jacksonville Terminals – The Jacksonville terminal will close at 1900 on Saturday, 9/25. The US Coast Guard will instruct that vessel operators cease cargo operations and depart for sea by Saturday at 1000, and by 2200, the port will officially close. This is based on current information and tracking but may change as the storms path becomes more clear.

Tropical Update – Jeanne 9/24 1730hrs

Storm Status – Jeanne

Category 2 Hurricane Jeanne with sustained winds around 100 mph, is moving westward at a slightly forward speed. It is currently located about 255 miles east of Great Abaco Island. A Hurricane Warning is in effect for the northwestern Bahamas including the Abacos, Andros Island, Berry Islands, Bimini, Eleuthera, Grand Bahama Island and New Providence indicating that hurricane conditions are expected within 24 hours. A Hurricane Watch is in effect along the east coast of Florida from Florida City to St. Augustine and may be extended northward later today indicating that hurricane conditions are possible in the area in the next 36 hours. A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the central Bahamas including Cat Island, the Exumas, Long Island, Rum Cay and San Salvador indicating that tropical storm conditions are expected in the next 24 hours.

Other delays in the South Atlantic and North Atlantic Services to Puerto Rico as well as the Bahamas service will likely occur should the storm continue along its projected path.

The Virgin Islands/Eastern Caribbean service should sustain only minimal delays.

Tropical Update Jeanne and Lisa

Update 9/23 1130hrs

Storm Status – Jeanne

Hurricane Jeanne strengthens little as it slowly moves westward. Already a category 2 storm with sustained winds near 105 mph, Jeanne is currently about 465 miles east of Great Abaco Island moving west at about 5mph, a motion that is expected to continue within the next 24 hours. A tropical storm watch remains in effect for the Central Bahamas including Cat Island, the Exumas, Long Island, Rum Cay and San Salvador indicating that tropical storm conditions are possible in the area within 36 hours. A hurricane watch may be required for the northwestern Bahamas later today.

Storm Status Lisa

At this time, tropical storm Lisa poses no threat to land. She is currently located about 1,215 miles west of the Cape Verde Islands and is moving very slowly to the west-southwest. Unless this storm becomes a threat to land, no further status reports will be issued.

All offices are currently operating with normal business hours.

Port Everglades Terminal The Coast Guard has currently alerted maritime interests that gale force winds are expected in the area within 72 hours. Additionally, it is expected that by 1500 today, vessels will be asked to prepare to complete cargo operations and depart the port within 24 hours. By Friday at 1500 it is expected that vessel operators will be instructed to cease cargo operations and depart for sea and on Saturday at 0300, the port will officially close. This is based on current information and tracking but may change as the storms path becomes more clear.

Jacksonville Terminals The Coast Guard has currently alerted maritime interests that gale force winds are expected in the area within 72 hours. Additionally, it is expected that at 0900 Friday, vessels will be asked to prepare to complete cargo operations and depart the port within 24 hours. By Saturday at 0900 it is expected that vessel operators will be instructed to cease cargo operations and depart for sea and on Saturday at 2100, the port will officially close. This is based on current information and tracking but may change as the storms path becomes more clear.

Vessels:

As Jeanne continues through the Bahamas, we do anticipate delays for the Bahamas as well as for the North Atlantic and South Atlantic Puerto Rico Services. We will continue to closely monitor the path of the storm and adjust sailing schedules accordingly. Additionally, there is the possibility that the Virgin Islands and Eastern Caribbean Service will encounter slight delays. As these become evident, we will provide you with scheduling information.

Update 9/20 1300hrs

Storm Status – Jeanne

Tropical storm Jeanne continues to sit in the Atlantic about 325 miles east of Great Abaco Island moving slowly northward to the east of the Bahamas at about 8mph. While winds are currently near 60mph with higher gusts some strengthening is forecast within the next 24 hours.

All offices and terminals are operating with normal business hours.

Vessels:

At this time no further delays are expected in the South Atlantic service to Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. Possible delays are expected in the North Atlantic service as Jeanne resumes northward movement. We will continue to monitor the storm’s progress and adjust accordingly.

Railroads:

CSX – While there is still congestion in Memphis and NOLA, all trains are operating on a normal schedule.

Storm Status – Jeanne

Jeanne has once again weakened to a tropical storm. She is still drifting over northern Hispaniola with sustained winds near 65 mph. A tropical storm warning remains in effect for the island of Hispaniola from Le Mole St Nicholas, Haiti eastward to Santo Domingo. A hurricane warning remains in effect for the southeastern Bahamas including the Acklins, Crooked Island, the Inaguas, Mayaguana and the Ragged Islands as well as for the Turks and Caicos Islands. A hurricane watch remains in effect for the central Bahamas including Cat Island, the Exumas, Long Island, Rum Cay and San Salvador. Jeanne has been moving little during the past few hours but is expected to resume a west-northwest track at 6mph later today.

New Orleans/Gulfport– open, sustained no damage from Hurricane Ivan

Puerto Rico– reopened at 0600 for normal cargo operations

St. Thomas and St. Croix – Both offices are open and operating with normal business hours.

Update 9/16 1400

Storm Status- Ivan

Category three Hurricane Ivan made landfall near Gulf Shores, AL at 0300 on 9/16 and continues on a northeasterly track through the state of Alabama taking the center near Birmingham, AL later this evening. Ivan is expected to weaken to a minimal hurricane later this morning and into a weak tropical storm late this evening.

Storm Status – Jeanne

At 0800, the National Hurricane Center upgraded Tropical Storm Jeanne to a Hurricane making it the sixth of the season with 80mph winds. Hurricane Jeanne is currently located near the eastern tip of Hispaniola. A hurricane warning is now in effect for the eastern and northern coasts of the Dominican Republic from La Plata southward to Isla Saona. A tropical storm warning and a hurricane watch are in effect along the northern coast of the Dominican Republic from west of Puerto Plata westward to Monte Cristo and along the southern coast of the Dominican Republic from Isla Saona westward to Santo Domingo. Tropical storm conditions are also likely along the north coast of Haiti. A hurricane watch remains in effect for the southeastern Bahamas including the Acklins, Crooked Island, the Inaguas, Mayaguana and the Ragged Islands as well as for the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Terminals/Offices:

New Orleans/Gulfport – The New Orleans Container yard and the Gulfport terminal are closed. The New Orleans Office is also closed. The Gulfport Terminal and Crowley’s New Orleans office are expected to open tomorrow at 0800. The Gulfport channel remains closed to ship traffic pending a Coast Guard survey of the channel and markers.

Jacksonville – all Jacksonville terminal and offices are operating as normal.

Atlanta – Crowley’s container yard in Atlanta will close at 1200 today.

Puerto Rico – Since the San Juan terminal is still without power, the offices closed at 1300 today. They will reopen tomorrow, 9/17 at 0600 hours for normal cargo operations.

St. Thomas and St. Croix – Both offices are currently open and operating with a limited staff. Though the islands did receive some damage from flooding and downed trees, vessel operations are not currently being affected.

Update – 9/15 1400hrs

Storm Status- Ivan

Hurricane Ivan is a Category four hurricane with sustained winds near 140 mph and gusts up to 175 mph. A Hurricane Warning is in effect from Grand Isle, LA to Apalachicola, FL. A Hurricane Watch remains in effect from Morgan City, LA to West of Grand Isle and a Tropical Storm Warning is in effect from Intracoastal City, LA to west of Grand Isle and from east of Apalachicola to Yankeetown, FL.

Storm Status – Jeanne

Tropical Storm Jeanne is currently about 17 miles southwest of St. Croix or 65 miles southeast of the eastern tip of Puerto Rico. The storm has maximum sustained winds near 60 mph. Some slight strengthening is possible over the next 6 hours before the center begins to pass across southern Puerto Rico. Jeanne will continue on a slow track to the west-northwest over the next 48 hours and reach the Turks and Caicos Islands on Friday.

A Hurricane Warning is in effect for Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. A Hurricane Watch and Tropical Storm Warning are in effect for portions of the northern and southern coasts of the Dominican Republic from Carbrera southward to Santo Domingo. A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for the British Virgin Islands, St. Kitts and Nevis. Tropical Storm conditions could also affect the remainder of the northern Leeward Islands.

Terminals/Offices:

New Orleans/Gulfport – The New Orleans Container yard and the Gulfport terminal are closed. The New Orleans Office is closed with the exception of essential personnel in preparation for the arrival of Hurricane Ivan.

Puerto Rico – Crowley’s Puerto Rico office is closed today, 9/15 in preparation for the arrival of tropical storm Jeanne. The office is expected to reopen Thursday, Sept. 16th.

Jacksonville – At this time, the USCG has stated that marine interests will continue to operate under slightly heightened port conditions, meaning that gale force winds are still possible within 72 hours. The port will continue to operate under this condition until Ivan makes landfall.

St. Thomas and St. Croix – Both Crowley offices are closed today and will reopen with normal operating hours on Thursday 9/16.

Vessels:

At this time the Puerto Rico/Caribbean vessel schedule has not been affected although we will continue to monitor the storm’s progress and adjust accordingly.

Storm Status:

Category four Hurricane Ivan with sustained winds of 155mph is moving north-northwest near 9mph in the southern Gulf of Mexico. A Hurricane Warning remains in effect for the Cuban provinces of Pinar del Rio, Havana, City of Havana and the Isle of Youth as well as for the northeastern Yucatan peninsula from Tulum to Progreso. A Tropical Storm Watch remains in effect for the Florida Keys and a Hurricane Watch remains in effect for the northern Gulf of Mexico coast from east of Morgan City, LA to St. Marks, FL.

Terminals/Offices:

New Orleans/Gulfport – Crowleys Gulfport Terminal gate will be closed to receiving cargo at 1200 Tuesday 9/14 and will only dispatch cargo until 1400 Tuesday 9/14.

The terminal itself will close at 1800 Tuesday, 9/14 and will remain closed on Wednesday 9/15 and potentially Thursday 9/16. We anticipate reopening on Friday 9/17.

Crowleys New Orleans office will tentatively be open Wednesday 9/15 to essential personnel from 0800-1200 unless a mandatory evacuation is ordered.

Jacksonville – At this time, the USCG has stated that marine interests will continue to operate under slightly heightened port conditions, meaning that gale force winds are still possible within 72 hours. The port will continue to operate under this condition until Ivan makes landfall.

Puerto Rico/Caribbean Service: At this time the Puerto Rico/Caribbean vessel schedule has not been affected although we will continue to monitor the storm’s progress and adjust accordingly.

Railroads:

CSX has formally lifted the Florida embargo. However, the New Orleans ramp will be closing at noon today.

FEC is still running alternating northbound/southbound service. Normal operations should return by end of week.
